Our Bespoke Process
How does the bespoke process work?
Every Son del Sol ring begins with a design consultation. A one-on-one conversation where we get to know your vision, your lifestyle and what you want your ring to say. From there, we source stones, refine the design and craft your piece entirely by hand in our Kiama studio. No two rings are the same. The full process typically takes eight to ten weeks from start to finish.
Do I need to know exactly what I want before I reach out?
Not at all. Most clients come to us with a feeling rather than a finished design. Something saved on their phone, a vague idea of what they love or simply a sense that they want something different to what they've seen in stores. That's exactly where we start. Our job is to help you articulate and refine your vision into something you'll love for a lifetime.
Can I do my consultation virtually or does it have to be in person?
Both. We offer in-studio consultations at our Kiama studio as well as virtual appointments. The majority of our clients are based in Sydney and beyond — distance is not a barrier to the process.
How long does it take to make a bespoke ring?
Our crafting time is eight to ten weeks from the confirmation of your deposit. Some designs take less time, highly complex or rare stone pieces can take longer. If you have a specific date in mind, a proposal, a birthday, a trip — let us know at the outset and we will plan around it.
When should I reach out if I have a proposal date in mind?
As early as possible. We recommend getting in touch at least three months before your ideal proposal date to allow time for the consultation, stone sourcing, production, and any refinements. The earlier you start, the more considered the process can be.
What is the deposit to confirm my order?
We request a 50% deposit to confirm your order and secure your stone. The remaining balance is due prior to collection or dispatch.
Do you offer payment plans?
Please reach out to discuss your options — we are happy to work with you on a structure that feels comfortable.
Diamonds & Stones
Do you work with natural and lab-grown diamonds?
Yes — we work with both. The majority of our engagement rings are set with lab-grown diamonds. They are physically, chemically and optically identical to mined diamonds and offer exceptional quality across a wide range of price points. We are also happy to source natural diamonds and can help you understand the differences, so you can choose what makes the most sense for your ring.
What metals do you work in?
We work exclusively in gold — yellow gold, white gold and rose gold. All are solid, not plated. Our white gold is a palladium alloy, which means it retains its natural white colour without requiring any additional maintenance such as rhodium plating.
Can I supply my own stone?
On a case by case basis, yes. Please note that we take no responsibility for the quality, certification or condition of client-supplied stones. This will be discussed at consultation.
Your Ring
What if I don't love the final piece?
We stand behind every ring we make. If there is anything about the finished piece that doesn't feel right, we continue to work with it until it is. Our satisfaction policy means we don't consider a ring finished until you do.
Can my ring be resized after I receive it?
Yes — we offer complimentary resizing within two sizes of the ring ordered. If a more significant size difference is required, this involves a full remake of the ring rather than a resize. We strongly recommend being professionally sized before confirming your order to avoid this. Our team can size you in-studio or any local jeweller can do so in Australian standard sizing.
How do I find my ring size?
The most accurate method is to visit our Kiama studio — our team will size you properly in Australian standard sizing. If you can't visit us, any local jeweller can do this. Note that your hands are likely different sizes — the ring finger on your dominant hand is often slightly larger.
Do you work with heirloom jewellery?
We do not remodel jewellery made by other studios or jewellers. However, we can incorporate heirloom gold into the crafting of a new Son del Sol ring, depending on the quality and composition of the metal. If you have a piece you'd like to discuss, please reach out and we can advise whether it's suitable.
Do you ship interstate or internationally?
Yes. For clients located interstate or internationally, we share a personalised video of your finished piece before dispatch. Shipping is handled with full insurance and tracking.
